IPL on YouTube exceeds expectations
The third edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was a big success even in the online world. This year IPL also reached out to millions of netizens through the official IPL channel on YouTube. "Over the course of the season, the IPL channel racked up nearly 55 million views from 200 countries and territories around the globe, blowing away our expectations," said a post on the official YouTube blog. One interesting fact is that the views on the IPL channel from the US for the semi-finals and the finals exceeded views from India. On the whole, it was viewers of India who logged on to the channel the most, followed by those from the US. On the day of the IPL finals, in which Chennai Super Kings beat Mumbai Indians, the YouTube IPL channel got about four million views and the majority of the viewers watched the match in real-time (in fact the matches were broadcast on YouTube with a five-minute delay). The figures have also surprised officials at YouTube, who expected the the number to be around 10 million streams.
