Delhi will be debris-free by Sept 10: Sheila
Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit has promised that the capital's roads would be cleared of all debris and construction material by September 10. Speaking to CNN-IBN's Karan Thapar, Dikshit said the deadline of September 10 to remove all the Commonwealth Games related construction debris will be met.
Sheila Dikshit: Roads will be clear of debris by 10th of September. We had a deadline but building are going on, works are going on and I would like to tell you and this is for your viewers that we had already cleared 100 thousand metric tonnes of 'malba'. Karan Thapar: You are telling me that by 10th of September Delhi roads will be cleared of 'mabla'.
Karan Thapar:: From September 20 special Commonwealth Games lane will start functioning on 300 kms of Delhi road. Have you got a plan to ensure that traffic doesn't gridlock?
Karan Thapar:: But sometimes it's one lane out of two-lane road. You are literally reducing the traffic flow by 50 per cent.
Sheila Dikshit:: Do you have any suggestions for that? I would love to have it. I would love people telling me this.
Sheila Dikshit:: Won't get worse. All people will have to do is adjust the going out. Many times you see empty cars on road just driving from one place to another.
Karan Thapar:: So you are telling people that a) don't go out b) only go when necessary, c) make sure you don't send empty cars?
Sheila Dikshit:: No, I am not saying that at all. What I am saying is if I have to go out shopping or some where. I will postpone it a little later. Players will go at a certain time, priority is going to be the players. They are our guests.
