CBI seeks Amit Shah's remand for five days
Ahmedabad: The CBI is all set to oppose former Home Minister of Gujarat Amit Shah's bail plea in a special court on Monday. The CBI wants Shah's custody for five days on the grounds that it wants to recover property.
The CBI produced a sealed cover before the court citing reasons for Shah's remand. The agency told the court they did not seek Shah's custody earlier because they expected cooperation from a high-ranking person like Amit Shah.
"He would have recognised for his assistance to the agency. Instead, Shah tried stonewalling the investigations," the agency said, adding recovery of some important documents, which are suspected to be in Shah's custody, is of utmost priority. The documents are vital evidence. Case diary papers pertaining to Amit Shah's arrest have been produced before the special court here. Senior lawyer K T S Tulsi is appearing for the CBI while Ram Jethmalani along with his son has reached the special court to appear on behalf of Shah.
On Tulsi's presence in the court, Jethmalani said: "According to me it's highly improper that Tulsi is appearing on behalf of the CBI as he has already appeared before the SC on behalf of Gujarat state."
But Tulsi said: "I have not taken any instructions from Amit Shah or any accused. And, the CBI, just like the state of Gujarat, believes this is a fake encounter."
On another front two Rajasthan IPS officers have turned prosecution witnesses for the CBI in the case. They are Rajiv Dasot, the then IG of Udaipur and Virendra Jhala, the then Additional SP of Udaipur.
Both the officers had recorded their statements in April this year. Their names figure in the CBI list of witnesses. A total of 15 police officials including four IPS officers DG Vanzara, Dinesh MN, Raj Kumar Pandian and Abhay Chudasama have been arrested in the Sohrabuddin Seikh encounter case so far.
