'Corruption claim at CWG has to be proved'

New Delhi: The Central Vigilance Commission's (CVC) allegations of corruption in the organization of Commonwealth Games are “remarks” and not an “indictment”, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has said.
Dikshit said that preparation for the games, which will be held in Delhi from October 3 to 14, are almost over and all the “minor complaints” will be sorted out.

“The CVC looks at things--it is a matter of routine. It goes around everywhere construction is taking place. When it goes around and passes a remark that remark has to answered but it's not an indictment. Please remember that it's not an indictment,” Dikshit told Anuradha SenGupta on CNN-IBN's show Beautiful People. “The CVC does it work, the CBI does it work, the vigilance department does it work--now this is something which is being hyped without knowing anything. So the CVC took out a clarification saying that this (its allegations of corruption) is not to point out or indict somebody,” she said. Dikshit insisted that all stadiums, expect Shivaji Stadium, for the games are ready.
In the last couple of weeks, doubts have surfaced over the quality of the stadiums for the Commonwealth Games. The Jawaharlal Nehru stadium, the venue for opening and closing ceremonies of the games, is leaking.
A section of the false ceiling at the Yamuna Sports Complex, scheduled to hold the table tennis event, collapsed after heavy rains.
There were also problems at the S P Mukherjee Swimming Complex, which hosted a test event last week, as a part of the false ceiling was broken and a swimmer was hurt after a cover on the water drainage system around the swimming pool came off. The vice president of world swimming federation (FINA), Sam Ramsamy, who was here for the test event, has expressed his concern, calling the work "shoddy".
CNN-IBN has accessed a CVC report which points to corruption at every level in the organization of the games. The report says there is no guarantee of quality of the work done because test records have been fabricated to show compliance.
