Naxals blow up CRPF vehicle, 4 feared dead
Kolkata: Suspected Naxals exploded an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) targeting a Central Reserve Police Force vehicle in West Midnapore district of West Bengal killing at least four security personnel and injuring two others. The IED was planted on a road between Pingboni and Ramgarh on the outskirts of Lalgarh. The CRPF team had set out from their camp at Goaltore market to patrol nearby villagers when the blast took place at Ramgarh in Lalgarh police station area in West Midnapore district at 1130 hrs IST. "Four CRPF jawans were killed and two were injured in an IED blast set off by Naxals," M Nageswar Rao, CRPF Inspector General of Police, Eastern Sector said. Those killed included three constables besides the driver of the vehicle in which they were travelling. The vehicle was badly damaged in the explosion. The blast left a five-feet-deep crater on the road. Earlier on Wednesday morning at around at around 0200 hrs IST the rebels detonated a landmine between Gidhni and Khathura stations damaging a goods train running between Tatanagar and Howrah in the Jhargram police station area near Village Khatpora. The train was damaged, and the driver and assistant driver of the train have been injured. According to Soumitra Majumdar, PRO, South Eastern Railways, seven long distance trains have been left stranded at different stations on the route. Many trains have also been diverted. The attacks come just two days after the rebels blew up a bus killing at least 41 people in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh. Monday’s attack in Dantewada was the second major strike by the Naxals in the state after the April 6 massacre of 75 CRPF personnel and one state policeman. Naxals have called for a five-day bandh in the states of Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Orissa and Chhattisgarh starting Tuesday to protest against Operation Green Hunt launched by the Government to neutralise their threat.
