NY car bomb suspect held

Police detectives and FBI agents arrested a Connecticut man, a citizen of Pakistan origin, in connection with the failed car bombing at the Times Square. Identified as a naturalised US citizen from Pakistan who recently returned from a trip there, the Connecticut resident bought the sport utility vehicle in Bridgeport within the last three weeks, paying cash in a deal that involved no formal paperwork. The breakthrough came as the investigation was shifted on Monday to the control of the international terrorism branch of the Joint Terrorism Task Force, a multi-agency group led by the Justice Department, the Times said citing two unnamed officials. The suspect, Faisal Shahzad was identified by customs agents and stopped at John F. Kennedy International Airport. He had recently returned from a five-month trip to Pakistan, where he had a wife. Sources suggest that the suspect was headed to Dubai. The suspect is believed to have anonymously bought the 1993 Nissan Pathfinder with cash just weeks before the Saturday night incident, the Times reported online, citing two sources briefed on the police investigation.
