Amit Shah appears, slams CBI chargesheet

Ahmedabad: Former Gujarat junior home minister Amit Shah who reached BJP headquarters in Ahmedabad on Sunday has termed the CBI's charges against him as "fabricated" and "politically motivated."
Defending himself in front of the media Shah said that it was a conspiracy against him by the Congress.
"It is a political conspiracy against me but I have full faith in the judiciary and will take the issue to the people of Gujarat," Shah said. He not only defended himself but also the policemen accused of staging the fake encounter of Sohrabuddin Shaikh and his wife Kausar Bi in 2005.
"The policemen have been accused of murder but they are the same policemen who have arrested 400 people alive. There have been 17,000 encounters in the country. Why doesn't someone ask the Congress?," he added.
CBI to seek trial transfer
Meanwhile, the CBI is likely to ask for trail in the Sohrabuddin Shaikh fake encounter case to be transferred outside Gujarat, sources tell CNN-IBN.
The agency, which is investigating former Gujarat junior home minister Amit Shah's involvement in the murder of extortionist Soharbuddin Shaikh and his wife Kausar Bi in 2005, is likely to appeal for the transfer to ensure that the trial is conducted in a free and fair manner.
Sources tell CNN-IBN that the CBI fears Amit Shah might influence the case.
Besides that, it is also learnt that more arrests could be made by the agency in Gujarat and Rajasthan in coming days.
Amit Shah, a close aide of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, has been on the run since he was issued summons by the CBI. On Saturday, Modi announced Shah's resignation. He also slammed the ruling Congress-led UPA government at the centre of misusing the CBI to settle political scores.
