Murder at industrialist Anil Nanda's residence

New Delhi: A driver has been burnt to death in the house of one of the country's leading industrialists Anil Nanda here.
The man was battling for life for seven days in a Delhi hospital, but the police never registered hisstatement. However, our sister Hindi channel IBN 7 actually recorded the man's statement on camera before he died. And his version of what happened is nothing short of sensational and has raised the question: Who is the Delhi police trying to protect in this ghastly murder? The victim Janeshwar Sharma, an ex-service man, was working as a driver with Nanda for six years. He was hospitalised on 9th June. He died a week later, making it a case of murder at the Nanda residence.
In the seven days that he battled with death, Janeshwar left behind two sensational claims on who and why someone wanted him killed -- one suggesting he was forced to spy on Nanda's business partner Vijay Sinha, and the second is related to Nanda's alleged sexual misconduct.
Strangely, the Delhi Police seems to have gone slow, failing to formally record Janeshwar's statement, or follow up on his specific allegations. But IBN 7 recorded his statement in hospital a few days before he died.
Other employees working at Nanda's New Friends Colony residence rushed him to the Apollo hospital andthe police registered a case of attempted murder. FIR number 142, registered at the New Friends Colony police station, mentions that Janeshwar had told the police he had been asked to tail Anil Nanda'sbusiness partner Vijay Sinha. In an obvious espionage attempt, and that he had been confronted by Sinha when found out.
The FIR also mentions Janeshwar saying there was lots more he wanted to tell but couldn't which he told IBN7, hinting at sexual misconduct. He even told IBN7 he wanted to give a statement to the magistrate.
The Delhi Police did not follow the logical way forward. In the first shocking part of their probe, the FIR states Janeshwar was admitted to Apollo Hospital at 11.15 am at 1.40 pm Dr Mahesh Kaitu declared him fit for statement. Yet his statement was not recorded by the police.
A desperate Janeshwar's family complained to the NHRC and the SDM in Defence Colony Pravesh Ranjan Jha and named three people Jitender Pandey, Anil Nanda and Dheeraj Balani in it.
On June 14, the SDM directed the SHO to report the action taken in the case. It was not done. After repeated attempts, Delhi Police had just this to say, "Investigations are on."
The police it appears have not questioned either Anil Nanda or his business partner Vijay Sinha. Even employees at the Nanda residence, who were present when he was set on fire, have not been questioned yet. The mystery has only deepened with the Nanda family and office choosing not to respond to IBN7's repeated attempts to secure their version.
An associate of Anil Nanda, when contacted, merely said: "There is a police inquiry on, and we are confident that the true facts will come out. Beyond that, it would not be appropriate for us to say anything at this stage."
Nanda, who is unmarried, is the chairman of the Akme Projects and is the son of former Escorts group chairman HP Nanda.
