Brazil take early lead against Netherlands
Port Elizabeth: Defensive midfielder Felipe Melo returned to Brazil's lineup for Friday's World Cup quarterfinal against the Netherlands. Felipe Melo is back after missing Brazil's 3-0 victory over Chile because of a left ankle injury.
Brazil is without midfielder Elano, who is out for the third consecutive match because of a right ankle injury and Ramires, who replaced Felipe Melo against Chile, is suspended after picking up a second yellow card of the competition. The Dutch made no changes to the lineup that beat Slovakia 2-1 in the second round.
Midfielder Rafael van der Vaart remains on the bench despite recovering from a left calf injury he picked up in training before the Slovakia match.
Lineups:
Netherlands: Maarten Stekelenburg, Gregory van der Wiel, John Heitinga, Joris Mathijsen, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Dirk Kuyt, Mark van Bommel, Wesley Sneijder, Nigel de Jong, Arjen Robben, Robin van Persie.
Brazil: Julio Cesar, Maicon, Lucio, Juan, Michel Bastos, Gilberto Silva, Felipe Melo, Daniel Alves, Kaka, Robinho, Luis Fabiano.
