Floods hit Punjab, Haryana; trains cancelled
Chandigarh: Heavy rains have left many parts of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal almost cut off from the rest of the country. Twenty-two trains have been cancelled including four Shatabdi Express.
Major roads and rail tracks are flooded. Rivulets like Tangri near Ambala and Markanada were flowing above the danger mark. Few cracks have also appeared in the SYL canal in Kurukshetra where the water has crossed the danger mark and has entered many villages.
Over 20,000 people are being moved to safer areas. National disaster response force has been deployed in Kurukshetra.

Authorities have issued an advisory against travelling on the busy National Highway 1 between Shahbad and Rajpura as the highway has developed cracks following heavy rains and floods.
The army had to be requisitioned on Tuesday evening after the heavy rains led to water overflowing in the Ghaggar river and the Sutlej Yamuna Link canal, causing breaches. Traffic and electricity supply was disrupted.
Ambala had received over 550 mm rainfall in the last three days.
