Mumbai Police arrest Kurla serial murder suspect
Mumbai: Mumbai Police on Thursday arrested a suspect in the Kurla serial rape and murder case. The suspect identified as Javed Ahmed Shaik has been sent to 14 days of police custody.
Several special teams of Mumbai Crime Branch officials were formed to track down the psychopath and a reward of Rs 2.5 lakh was also announced for anyone who gave information on the serial killer suspect.
Police had also released the sketch of the serial killer after they found decomposed bodies of three minor girls in Kurla over the past five months. The sketch was released after the body of a nine-year-old girl was found in Kurla on June 19 – the third in the area recently.
The body was found in a slum by local residents who broke into the hut after a foul smell was noticed.
The girl's feet were found tied with a wire and her clothes were strewn around her body. The body had been identified as that of Nusrat Shaikh who had gone missing while playing outside her house.
In the earlier cases, the girls were raped and murdered and their bodies were dumped on building terraces. Police suspect that the third victim was raped before she was killed.
