Govt relents, postpones fuel price hike
New Delhi: For the second time in two weeks ally pressure forced the government to postpone a fuel price hike. The DMK, NCP and Trinamool opposed it.
There will be no immediate hike in the fuel prices as the Empowered Group of Ministers' meeting on fuel prices has been postponed indefinitely. The EGoM was scheduled to meet on Thursday.
Sources say this has been done in view of the political sensitivities involved. Allies like the DMK, Trinamool Congress and NCP have been stoutly opposing any hike in fuel prices saying it'll further stoke inflation.
