CBI to grill Shah in Sohrabuddin case today

Ahmedabad: Former Gujarat minister of state for home Amit Shah will be questioned on Wednesday by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inside Sabarmati Jail over the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter.
Shah is likely to be questioned about his role in the death of Sohrabuddin and his wife, Kauser Bi and to what extent was he involved in the conspiracy to abduct and kill the couple. The CBI will also grill him on whether he had a role to play in the killing and disposing off the body of Kauser Bi
Shah will also face some tough questions on his alleged role in the destruction of vital evidence in the fake encounter case. He could face some uncomfortable questions on how he abused his official position to reportedly sanction the fake encounters. The court had directed that Shah's interrogation should be video recorded.
Shah, a close aide of Chief Minister Narendra Modi, is facing murder, extortion and other charges in the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case.
He resigned as minister of state for home in the Gujarat government on Saturday after a chargesheet was filed against him. The former minister was arrested on Sunday and sent to judicial custody till August 7.
The CBI's plan to nail Shah in the alleged staged encounter killing of Sohrabuddin partly rests on video recordings secretly prepared by two Ahmedabad-based builder brothers -- Raman Patel and Dashrath Patel -- of their conversation with the politician's associates.
The Patels recorded their conversation with Yashpal Chudasama and Ajay Patel, Shah's associates, in March and April this year after the CBI took over the investigation into the murders of Sohrabuddin and his wife Kauser Bi in November 2005.
The conversation in Gujarati between the four men in the video recordings accessed by CNN-IBN suggests that Shah's associates were desperate to get him off the hook.
