'Assaulted' by Uttar Pradesh SDM, man dies
Basti (UP): A 55-year-old man on Monday died allegedly after being slapped by a sub-divisional magistrate in the court where he had gone in connection with a case,
police sources said here.
Lallan Pandey, who had gone to the SDM court in connection with a case, died in the court premises and his family members alleged that he died after being slapped by the
officer Satish Kumar Vaishya, they said.
DIG Abhimanyu Tiwari said a case of culpable homicide has been lodged against the SDM and it was being investigated. However, the district magistrate Pankaj Kumar claimed the SDM was not present in the court at the time of Lallan's death.
SP MLA Raj Kishore Singh and advocates assembled at the spot demanding Rs 25 lakh to the kins of Lallan and SDM's arrest.
Police have been deployed in strength to avert any untoward incident, sources said.
