Mamata accuses CPM of 'scientific rail sabotage'

Kolkata: Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has blamed Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) for both the Gyaneshwari Express and Sainthia rail disasters.
Addressing the martyr's day rally organised in the memory of 13 Youth Congress workers killed in a police firing in Kolkata on this day in 1993, Mamata targeted her opponents who have been asking her to choose between Railways and West Bengal politics and claimed that CPI-M activists were scientifically planning to sabotage railways.
"On May 30 the Kolkata Municipal Corporation elections took place and on May 28 CPI-M orchestrated the Gyaneshwari train accident. The locals told me the CPI-M is behind it, the CBI probe is on. The accident at Sainthia occurred on July 19 before our Martyr's Day rally today. Both took place around 2:00 am. Many people were killed. This should be probed. The CBI is investigating the earlier accident. They (Marxists) are not planning development, but opening clips on tracks. Some comrades are drawing up scientific plans. After the Gyaneshwari (accident) they strung up a poster claiming that it was an accident. Who were behind it should be investigated. It is sabotage," she said. Countering CPI-M's argument that she should resign following Monday's collision at Sainthia station between Uttarbanga Express and Vananchal Express which left 66 persons dead, Mamata said, "I am prepared to resign if the CPI-M guarantees that it will not indulge in sabotage."
She also blamed the CPI-M activists of planting cockroaches in the food served by Railways.
"They have been planning sabotage. They are trying to ruin the (reputation of) Railways by letting cockroaches into food. It is time for the CPI-M to go," she claimed.
She also reiterated her demand to withdraw security forces from Lalgarh, saying it is aiding the CPI-M set up armed camps.
However, CPI-M Politburo member Sitaram Yechury denied all charges made by the Railway Minister.
"This is a wild and an absurd charge. The fact that it has been said by a Minister means that we will seek a privilege against such baseless charges," said Yechury.
