Amit Shah resigns even as CBI hunts for him

New Delhi: Gujarat's junior Home Minister and Chief Minister Narendra Modi's right hand man Amit Shah has finally resigned. Announcing this, Modi said Shah has resigned but all charges against him are fabricated. The CBI has charged him with conspiracy to murder.
Modi, who arrived here on Saturday morning to attend the National Development Council meet, made clear he has received Shah's resignation letter and will initiate the process once he reaches Ahmedabad.
"I have learnt that his resignation letter has reached my home in Ahmedabad. I accept it and I will initiatethe process once I reach there," said Modi, adding, "Amit Bhai is innocent and all charges against him by the CBI are fabricated." Modi, who came down heavily on the UPA government for what he alleged its failure in all fronts, accused the CBI of being a puppet at the hand of the ruling Congress party.
"The UPA government has failed on all fronts and they have now completely come down to using the CBI politically," Modi said. "Congress has failed in fixing prices, Naxal problems, Srinagar situation. It's a conspiracy to derail Gujarat's development. Amit Shah is innocent. It's all fabricated. This is sheer politics," Modi said further.
The BJP had hinted Friday on CNN-IBN that Shah might resign as party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad had said, "Amit Shah is entitled to his legal redress. He is aware of his Constitutional obligations. Let's leave it at that."
Prasad charged the Centre of misusing CBI to rein in Opposition leaders. "Look at how the CBI has framed Opposition leaders and has bailed out its own people. I am quite sure the fair investigation claim of the CBI will suffer during the trial. A lot of skeletons are going to come out of the cupboard," said Prasad.
On the other hand, the CBI has started its search for Shah after he failed to appear before it on Friday despite two summons. The CBI sleuths raided Shah's premises on Friday and filed a chargesheet against him for his alleged involvement in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case.
This just hours after a CNN-IBN expose revealed details of evidence against Shah. He has been charged with conspiracy to abduct and murder. His legal team is now exploring other options and may move the High Court since a CBI court has already rejected the minister's anticipatory bail plea.
