BJP, JD-U pact: Narendra Modi to keep off Bihar

New Delhi/ Patna: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra will not campaign for the BJP in Bihar and he will keep away from the state. That is the deal the Janata Dal (United) has extracted from its alliance partner in the state.
Sources in the JD-U have told CNN-IBN both parties have reached an understanding that Narendra Modiwill not campaign in Bihar. “We have been allies in the past and we will continue to remain so in the future. As far as the elections are concerned, it would be fought together,” said JD-U president Sharad Yadav on Tuesday, signaling an end to strained ties between the two parties recently. JD-U leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday returned the Rs 5 crore money given by Gujarat for flood relief two years ago. He was angry at advertisements featuring him and Narendra Modiand the Gujarat Chief Minister's reference to the aid provided by his government during the 2008 Kosi floods.
The BJP hit back on Sunday, saying Nitish Kumar was being “petty” and “childish” by returning the flood relief money and dared him to end the alliance.
But both parties have been trying to cool tempers since then. Senior BJP leader L K Advani and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi are in favour of continuing with JD-U.
Sushil Kumar Modi, who boycotted a function held by Nitish Kumar to protest his decision to return flood relief money, was seen talking to Kumar at a function in Patna on Sunday.
"The potter does not want his pot to break," said BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain.
