NHRC may seek report on Nanda driver's murder
New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission is likely to seek a report from Delhi Police over the death of prominent industrialist Anil Nanda's driver Janeshwar Sharma, who was allegedly burnt by some unknown persons.
"The move is under consideration of the NHRC, we have to take a decision on it yet," a NHRC official said. Sharma, a former serviceman, was admitted to the Safdarjung Hospital on June 9 with 80 per cent burn injuries and died a week later on June 15.
Delhi Police had seven days to record Sharma's statement but failed to do so. But before his death, in an interview to IBN 7, Sharma claimed he was being forced by Nanda's associates to tail his business partner Vijay Sinha.
He alleged that he had been threatened that he would lose his job if he protested. No arrests have been made so far.
Police say they are examining the CD of the victim's dying declaration. In his dying declaration Sharma had named Nanda and his three aides as the men responsible for harassing him.
The driver claimed that he had been harassed after he refused to have sex with Nanda and that he'd been forced to spy on Nanda's business partner.
Nanda and some of his associates were questioned by Delhi Police on Friday in connection with Sharma’s death. Additional Commissioner of Police (South East district) VS Chahal said that the investigations in the murder case were in the right direction.
