Trains stopped after blasts heard near Jhargram
Kolkata: A guard of a goods train heard an explosion-like sound when the train was between Gidni and Jhargram stations on Tuesday following which the railways suspended services on the Khargapur-Tatanagar section.
South Eastern Railway sources told PTI that the guard brought it to the notice of the Railway Control Room and all train services were immediately suspended as a precautionary measure.
The goods train which left Jhargram at 7.15 am had reached Haldia safely at 7.58 am, the sources said.
An RPF party along with bomb squad personnel were travelling to the spot to ascertain whether any explosion had occurred.
A number of trains, including the Dn Steel Express, were controlled at various stations.Train services will resume after the inspection was over, the sources said.
Meanwhile, the Railways have further extended suspension of night running of trains till June 26 in Kharagpur division keeping in mind the prevailing situation in the area.
The suspension came in force after the Jnaneshwari train derailment near Jhargram on May 28 which claimed 148 lives.
"The suspension, which was to end today, has been extended till June 26. During the period, trains between Kharagpur and Tatanagar and Kharagpur and Adra will not operate between 10 pm and 5 am," a railway official said.
