Hurriyat plans march in Valley, curfew imposed


Srinagar: Authorities imposed curfew and restricted the movement of civilians across Srinagar on Friday to thwart the march to Batamaloo by the Syed Ali Geelani faction of Hurriyat Conference. Security deployment has been increased in other towns of Kashmir Valley. There is tension in the Valley since the march is planned after the Friday prayers.
On Thursday, too, normal life was disrupted in Srinagar following a shutdown called by Geelani. All shops, educational institutions, banks, public transport and other business establishments remained closed inSrinagar because of the two-day shutdown beginning on Wednesday called by Geelani.
The Geelani faction of Hurriyat had called the strike against alleged human rights violations by security frices. At least 15 people have been killed, including a 25-year-old woman, in the clashes between protesters and security forces since June 11.
