Nadia death case: Goa ex-minister arrested

Margao: Former Goa tourism minister Fransisco Mickey Pacheco was arrested on Thursday in connection with the death of his woman friend Nadia Torrado. He has been charged with abetment of suicide and culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
The 46-year-old Nationalist Congress Party MLA was arrested after he was discharged from the Intensive Care Unit of Hospicio Hospital in Margao where he was admitted with hypertension and jaundice. He was admitted to the hospital immediately after he was sent to judicial custody by a trial court.
The former minister’s aide, Lyndon Monteiro, has also been booked for culpable homicide.
Pacheco's close friend Nadia, 28, had allegedly consumed poison on May 15 and subsequently was admitted to various private hospitals in Goa, Thane and Chennai. She died on May 30.
A Goa court had on July 7 rejected his bail plea in connection with the death of Nadia.
Additional Sessions judge Pramod Kamat denied bail to Pacheco, who surrendered before the court on July 3 after his anticipatory bail petition was rejected by the Supreme Court.
