9 UK students booked for 'insulting' Indian flag

Alappuzha: Nine British students have been booked on the charge of disrespecting the Indian flag during the famous Nehru Trophy Boat race here.
The students, studying para-medical courses in Kerala, allegedly draped the national tricolour around the lower part of their body while cruising on a house-boat at the Punnamada Lake where the boat race was taking place yesterday, police said.

President Pratibha Patil was the chief guest at the event.
When the students disembarked from the boat, police gathered their personal details and a case was registered, they said.
They were let off after registering a case at the North Police station here, police sources said.
