Ghaziabad student kills self after being ragged

Ghaziabad: A 19-year-old first year student of an engineering college near Ghaziabad allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the roof of his hostel building. The student's family suspects it was fallout of ragging.
Abhishek, who hailed from Ranchi in Jharkhand, was a student of SRM Institute of Engineering and Management.

His parents have filed a police complaint saying he took the extreme step after being ragged by his seniors. A case has been registered against the dean of the college and five second year students. Abhishek Sahai was taken to hospital where he was in coma for a while before he died. The incident happened on Sunday night.
His family members claim he sent his friend a text message on Sunday night saying he was being ragged and soon after that he jumped off the hostel roof.
"A friend of his had gone to meet him and he sent him a text message saying, 'I can't come, I'm being ragged.' The message is still there on the cell phone and there's a message on Facebook too," saidAbhishek's brother Shrivanshu.
The college, however, denies that ragging was the reason behind the death.
