Party over? Cong to decide on Kalmadi today

New Delhi: The Congress is divided over taking action against Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi after fresh allegations have been levelled against him. A core group of the Congress will be meeting on Friday to discuss the matter.
A section of the Congress wants an oversight body to be appointed to resume the functioning of theCommonwealth Games.

On Thursday he was accused of irregularities in the purchase of sporting equipment for National Games in Jharkhand. CNN-IBN has documents that expose a scam in awarding contracts for the purchase of sporting equipment for National Games in Jharkhand.
Congress leader and National Games Organising Committee Chairman RK Anand has accused Kalmadi of favouring a particular private firm and directing National Games organisers to buy video screens at prices which are four times higher than their actual price.
These revelations have brought Kalmadi and Commonwealth Games Federation Chief Mike Fennel under scanner.
The Enforcement Directorate has sent notices to the Royal Bank of Scotland and to its Indian representative for providing all transaction details of payments made by the Commonwealth GamesOrganising Committee.
However, the government is unwilling to act against Kalmadi for now and wants the Games to be over first, said sources.
