After PC, Pranab pulls up Mamata for Azad remark
New Delhi: The Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has asked Trinamool Congress (TMC) Chief Mamta Banerjee to give a written reply on her controversial pro-Maoist speech in West Bengal's Lalgarh rally.
Mamata's controversial pro-Maoist speech Lalgarh rally has left the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government embarrassed and the Congress now wants an explanation from the Chief of its key ally TMC.
Mamata had called Maoist leader Azad's encounter killing in Andhra Pradesh a murder. The Opposition targeted the Prime Minister on that statement.
“The way Azad was killed was improper. Agnivesh and others had persuaded him to sit for the peace talks but he was killed before the peace talks could begin . I feel that the peace talk should resume again. From this platform we pay respect to the departed soul,” said Mamata.
Earlier on Wednesday, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, while replying to a debate in Rajya Sabha had snubbed the TMC Chief for her rally at Lalgarh.
Reacting to the Opposition, which stepped up the heat over the presence of Maoists at Mamata's 'apolitical' rally, Chidambaram had said that the Government won't encourage anyone who sides with the Maoists.
